About Mia

Mia Vilcins is an award winning designer-maker creating contemporary curiosities and wearable jewellery using a variety of materials and techniques, including metalsmithing, lapidary, embroidery, and assemblage.

Mia’s work has been exhibited at locations including Munich Jewellery Week, Galerie Marzee, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Young V&A, London Craft Week.

Mia is a materials specialist, being awarded prizes for work in gold and silver, stone, and pewter.

Playing with the notion of value, Mia uses precious metals and gemstones alongside objects that have been thrifted, gifted, and collected, layering history and nostalgia into familiar yet enigmatic forms.

Much of Mia’s work features whimsical creatures and characters, giving personality, and sometimes movement, to the miniature sculptures and art objects.

A lover of historical objects that tell of social history, Mia is inspired by Wunderkammer, Automata, mementos, and fashion accessories, bringing these inspirations into whimsical items intended to bring moments of joy and wonder to the wearer and viewer.

Mia graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2024, from the MA Jewellery & Metal course; and from London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, gaining a BA in Fashion Jewellery. Mia is Certified in Gemmology Level 4 and has studied Diamond Grading with the prestigious Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A).

Mia works from a studio in Devon, and teaches in London and beyond.

Mia is available for commissions, tutoring and workshops.
